You open my eyes to see the beauty of Daniel who sits in his wheelchair at the grocery parking lot. I can’t read his sign, but his smile prods me to want to talk to him. Instead, I keep on driving. You whisper he is worth making time for. I don’t argue, but I wonder what I am to do while driving home. Water keeps coming to mind. I drop off the groceries knowing I am going back. I take bottled water with me.
Getting back to where Daniel is, I bring some water and sit it next to him without saying anything about it. We begin to talk and his smile is lovely. His speech is not clear; I lean down closer to listen. I respond to You asking me to look him in the eyes and let him see my own by taking off my sunglasses. Daniel knows his name is that of a prophet and says he knows the Lord. He thinks he is here for money and I share, “the gift I have is better”. He grins and points his finger upward saying “the Lord”! We laugh together and he shares briefly his thoughts about knowing the word and how he believes his Koran. He speaks to say Jesus is a prophet, high priest and king of kings, making me laugh in love.
Daniel allows me to touch his shoulder, praying healing and deliverance over him in Jesus’ name. I give him what I have in funds to share, asking him if he needs water? His response is about how important water is to him. I get another bottle from my car and tell him I know he is my brother. He brings joy to my heart to call me sister, and then says something I don’t expect. “I am here to test your spirit. If you didn’t share about Jesus, I wouldn’t want nothing to do with you.” He adds about how important it is to be given hope and shakes my hand.
Father, You open my eyes to see the water You meant to share wasn’t bottled….
Joh 7:37b-38 “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
